How To Bet Dubai World Cup

How to bet on the Dubai World Cup? Unlike sports betting, when you bet on horse races, you’ll be entering pari-mutuel pools. This means all the money wagered either win, place, show and so on gets pooled. Then, the pool is divided among the winning tickets. The Dubai World Cup is the second richest thoroughbred horse race in the world and it continues to be one of the most popular betting races of the year. Some of the world's best racing talent embarks on the Meydan Racecourse in March/April and they're looking to.

Racing TV presenter Angus McNae tipped up four winners at odds of 11-1, 4-1, 4-1 and 9-4 on Dubai World Cup day last year and marks your card for the action at Meydan on Saturday.

The Dubai World Cup Meeting is a highlight of the year for me and this year will once again be a magnificent occasion.

My task is to make a profit from a starting point of £20. Before I give you the various combinations that I have worked out, it is worth remembering a few punting maxims when it comes to the racing at Meydan on this night.

1. Early pace and a prominent position on the dirt is key.

2. The rail on the dirt is Golden, if only because it is the shortest way round this sharp track.

3. Turf races tend to be steadily run, and late pace is vital. It is hard to make up ground from too far back which, to a large degree, is a function of pace.

4. Don’t presume International raiders just have to turn up to win; Carnival form is very strong. Last year, six winners on World Cup Night had raced on Super Saturday at Meydan.

Here are my selections followed by some combinations you might like to try.

Muntazah broke a long-standing track record here on Super Saturday and is an impressive dirt horse.

Heavy Metal won this last year and shaped very well having missed the break behind Muntazah last time. He could spring a surprise if breaking better.

Blue Point will be all the rage here, but I think he is vulnerable in a strongly run, six-furlong contest, whereas over 5f he is almost unbeatable.

Stormy Liberal is a class act at Santa Anita and was narrowly beaten in this race last year and makes each-way appeal.

A very impressive winner of the UAE 2000 Guineas Trial and then was beaten in the Guineas itself where connections tried to settle him in behind the leaders rather than letting him stride on and use his early speed.

Frankie Dettori takes over and, from stall 1, he will surely let this horse bowl along in front. If so, he will take some catching.

The American raiders can dominate this race. X Y Jet is my choice after his narrow defeat in this last year.

Dubai World Cup Odds

He has more pace than his main rival Roy H who may get a bad trip from stall 1. Intake X Y Jet to make all.

Dream Castle is unbeaten in three starts at this year’s Carnival. He has been transformed since being gelded and united with Christophe Soumillon and has a sharp turn of foot.

Impressive when winning the Jebel Hatta, he can lower the colours of Almond Eye who is a brilliant filly on firm ground in Japan, but she has never travelled before and at 5-4 she makes no appeal.

He will be favourite but should win. He took his prep run for this despite finding trouble in a steadily run race and given that he did not have a hard race, he should be spot on here and will outclass his rivals.

This is a tactically fascinating race. It is tough to split North America, Thunder Snow and Cappezano, but I think Cappezano will have a tactical edge from stall 2 and he is the biggest price of the three at 5-1.

This is going to be a superb race, the race to the first bend being crucial.

How to bet £20 on Dubai World Cup day at Meydan:

Dream Castle, Muntazah and Old Persian - £3 win treble.

Cappezano and Walking Thunder - £2 each-way double.

Stormy Liberal and X Y Jet - £1 each-way double.

Heavy Metal and Walking Thunder - £1 each-way double.

Old Persian and Dream Castle - £3 win double.

Muntazah and Old Persian - £2 win double.

Walking Thunder, Capezzano, Old Persian, Dream Castle and X Y Jet – £2 each-way accumulator.

Good Luck!

BETTING WORLDWIDE, BUT NOT IN DUBAI

Since 2010 the Dubai World Cup has been held at the plush new Meydan Racecourse which has an all weather synthetic surface as well as a turf course. The Dubai World Cup is held annually in late March and includes nine races with eight thoroughbred contests and one reserved for purebred Arabian horses. Racing in Dubai operates under the jurisdiction of the Emirates Racing Authority. The Emirates Racing Authority is chaired by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan who is also the Minister of Presidential Affairs for the United Arab Emirates. One of the unique aspects of the Dubai World Cup is that it is the only major horse racing event in the world with no betting at the track. Like most Muslim nations, gambling is illegal in Dubai though the event still manages to draw 60,000 fans each year. Outside of Dubai, however, it's a completely different story. Dubai World Cup betting is popular throughout the US and Europe and the event is broadcast live by TVG in the United States. The Dubai World Cup races are very unique handicapping challenges for a number of reasons—big fields drawn from all over the world on an unfamiliar track with a synthetic surface (Tapeta) that many horses have never run on.

DUBAI WORLD CUP HANDICAPPING

While the race features many horses with Dubai ownership the overwhelming majority are bred and trained in the United States or Europe. In the main event of the card—the Dubai World Cup race—16 of the 18 all time winners have been bred in the United States or Europe. A horse bred in Brazil won in 2007 while a Japanese bred horse won in 2011. These two horses are also the only two winners of the big race that did not have American or Dubai owners—each country has won 8 of the 18 races.

UNFAMILIAR HORSES BRINGS BETTING OPPORTUNITY

Dubai World Cup

With no on track Dubai World Cup betting and the majority of wagering action coming from the United States or Europe there are a few general strategies the handicapper can use to make this unique situation work in his advantage. Keep in mind that there will be many unfamiliar horses in the field and this means that horses bred in Europe and particularly the United States will be overbet. This is especially true among horses that have had some success in their career—bettors naturally gravitate toward familiar names. The flip side is also true—lower profile horses often offer value and shouldn't be dismissed when making your Dubai World Cup bets.

THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE RACING SURFACE

At one point the United States bred horses had a significant advantage in the dirt races in Dubai but that edge has been eliminated with the switch to the synthetic Tapeta surface that came about with the opening of the Meydan Racecourse in 2010. Since no other major race tracks have a Tapeta surface (the only American tracks that do are Golden Gate Fields and Presque Isle Downs) you won't find many horses with experience on the surface. The American horses are at a significant disadvantage in the turf races held in Dubai—in fact, no American bred horse has ever won one of these races.
